John Morris Dip La MLI.

Hugh O'Connell, APLD

"I develop designs with a feel for form, endeavouring to balance the natural and manufactured structural forms used in my designs. Architectural considerations involve the verticals of the dwelling in relationship to the horizontals of the garden. I have a strong commitment to conservation".

Hugh is a garden designer who initially worked as a sculptor in stone, giving him great empathy with bold garden forms and compositions. He considers the garden planting during the initial design stage, so creating gardens that are coherent, bold and exciting. Hugh will tackle any garden design, but during his twenty years in the profession he has specialised in classical formal design, particularly for Listed Buildings, including one used in a BBC historical play series.

Hugh specialises in Grade Listed properties and planning submissions, both individually done and in conjunction with architects. His work emphasises that the good use of space strengthens the illusion of a larger garden size. As you can see from the site, large gardens in the UK and overseas are in his portfolio. He has provided a good service to many clients in the London area.

Area of coverage in UK: London and the South-West of England, including Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Somerset, Avon, Wiltshire, Hampshire and the Cotswolds.

"I am a chartered landscape architect, and member of the Landscape Institute. I have twenty-five years experience in large-scale landscape and urban design projects for both the public and private sector."

My design team pays particular attention to the quality of its detail design and appropriate use of plant material in often difficult environmental and social conditions, and has a recognised track record of minimising vandalism, and containing maintenance costs through appropriate design solutions.
The practice utilises extensive use of computer aided design and visualisation technology which facilitates the speedy transfer of designs and data between complementary professional disciplines and the clear communication of its design ideas to both clients and local community groups.
